Aberdeen Film Festival programme launched
The programme for the first ever Aberdeen Film Festival has been launched.
The event, taking place from 4-12 October 2014, at both Cineworld cinemas in Aberdeen, promises to provide nine days of diverse and entertaining films from around the globe. Directors and stars will be present throughout the festival.
Kicking off on the evening of October 4th we have documentary ‘A Curious Life’, the story of the band The Levellers via eccentric bassist Jeremy Cunningham. We have comedies in the form of the hilarious ‘Leap 4 Your Life’ from Canada on the 11th of October and ‘The Backseat’ from the USA (featuring locally born actor Craig Kelly) on the 5th of October.
We are pleased to be able to screen local film maker David Keith's latest horror "The Redwood Massacre" and give people the chance to view locally made "Whistle my Lad" of Tripswitch Productions that screened at Cannes earlier this year.
From Japan we also have the UK premiere of ‘Little House’, winner of best actress at the Berlin Film Festival on October 10th and the fantastically funny ‘Fuku-chan of Fukufuku Flats’ on October 11th.
Other highlights include the heavily Hitchcock influenced ‘Candlestick’ on the 8th of October, the beautifully shot ‘The Raven on the Jetty’ on the 10th of October and a thought provoking documentary on homelessness in a coastal North Carolina city on October 10th in ‘Something You Can Call Home’.
We also have shorts followed by a Q&A; from Scottish filmmakers Tim Courtney and Shaun Hughes in the ‘Factotum Showcase’ on October 11th along with the works of Japanese directors in ‘New Directions in Japanese Cinema: NDJC Shorts’ on October 6th with Kosuke Takaya in attendance.
Our closing night film on October 12th is the UK premiere of spaghetti western ‘6 Bullets To Hell’.
For the first time, the world famous ’48 Hour Film Project’ will also be taking place in Aberdeen, running from the 26th to the 28th of September 2014. Over two days, we challenge you to produce a short masterpiece, which will then be shown at a screening of all the films on October 7th.
This is just a taster of what is available at the Aberdeen’s International Film Festival – explore the full programme yourself. There are also free screenings and workshops for the over 60s and unemployed. Tickets will be available later this month.
We hope you enjoy the festival – this is just the first step in building an exciting annual event for the people of the North East of Scotland.
